Master Bedroom: Initial (but definitely not final) Reveal

I finally have some master bedroom photos to reveal.  We started working on the master bedroom back in February, we painted the walls and put down new flooring.  Then I got dressers (the Malm from Ikea) on craigs list, and a couple months later replaced them with my new campaign dresser, repainted this headboard white, and added small accents (lamps, trays, mirrors, etc.)

You may remember this post which inspired my master bedroom plan.  Since then I've created multiple mood boards, here and here, that have helped me visualize what my overall concept is for the room.  Well here are my first real photos of the bedroom.

I still need to:
-make new curtains, hopefully from a teal and navy fabric:)
-paint the campaign dresser white
-paint the night stand teal
-replace the candle tree above the bed with the whale boat rudder (the candle tree will move to the hallway)

Here is a pic of the dresser screaming "I NEED PAINT"; I'm also considering painting the floor mirror as well (maybe teal like the nightstand).  We'll see what happens.   And I'm not super sold the placement of those sconces.

But I think we can all agree that the Sputnik Chandelier steals the show. About a month ago I sold my dining room set on craigslist and added it with the money that I received from my parents for my birthday (thanks mom and dad!) and WAH-LAH, I splurged on this baby!  A guy on e-bay custom made it to my specifications!  How cool is that?  From a thrift store cheapo like me it is pretty fancy shmancy!  It's in a finish called satin brass which is a lot less abrasive than traditional brass.  I'm as thrilled as a squirrel in a nut factory!

This is one of my favorites!  Sputnik in the mirror!

Anyway, I have many more master bedroom reveals to come as I continue to tweak things, but I couldn't wait until it is all complete to show you my new sputnik chandelier.   I still feel that the room is lacking something, hopefully adding the teal accents and curtains will make things look more homey and feminine.

A Campaign Dresser of My Very Own!

I have been pinning campaign dressers on Pinterest for months now.  I am slightly obsessed.  Like this one that I posted to my favorite things board.  There are also some amazing campaign pieces that have been floating around the blogosphere!

Here are some amazingly inspiring pics:

And now, here is the one of my very own!  I think I'll be painting it a glossy white!  At least that was the plan until I saw it in front of our navy/gray walls!  The wood warms up the navy quite nicely, dont ya think?

You can see where the brass could use a little love in these up close photos.

This is a project that I can't tackle for a few more weeks so I am happy to live with it the way that it is and see what happens from there.  I plan to polish the brass, apply several coats of white, and then add poly to give it that glossy finish.  I'll be sure to share it once it's complete.

Oh and I almost forgot the best part.  I got this piece for 50 buckaroos!  How awesome is that?  The dresser is nearly 6' long (70" to be exact) and is a high quality Thomasville piece.  It is also in great condition.  This will be a dresser I'm sure to love for a long time to come.  Yipee!

HOW ABOUT A LIL VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL

Do you ever have trouble understanding your style?  I sure do!  Once I think I have it pinned down I see another item that I HAVE TO HAVE that doesn't fit any of the other requirements.  I just think I'm pretty eclectic and love a bunch of different things.  So what's wrong with having those different things all in my home?  I say nothing it all!  It gives it more of a collected over time look.  Which is exactly what it is!  But if I had to define my style (at this particular point in time, cuz Lord knows it's always changin')  it would be a blend of light airy modern beach house decor, with a splash of mid-century, and a smidge of industrial.  There are probably major gaps that I'm leaving out but at this point in time on a Saturday morning, that's all I got!

So when I happened across a vintage blue metal book case at my favorite local thrift store, I HAD TO HAVE IT!  The heart pounding "I shouldn't but I have to"kinda have it.  Does this ever happen to you?!  I actually checked out with my clothing items first because I was trying to talk myself out of it.   But obviously you know that I got because now I have the privilege of sharing it with you!

Here it is cleaned up, 'styled', and in my house!

It's a little rusted and weathered in places but I think it adds to the charm of the piece.  Here are some close ups!

Profile.

And here it is shown at a wider angle in the room.

Do you all have many different styles of decor in your house?  Had any recent finds that you just can't wait to share about?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

D' D' D' DO YOU HAVE IT? GUTS!

Does anyone remember the Nickelodeon tv show, GUTS?  For some reason as I was thinking about writing this post today it came to my mind.  Not because my plan for today is to climb a giant wall and get a bucket of 'gack' dumped on me;  but because I am stepping out of my comfort zone and putting a post out that requires from me, well guts.

Let me explain, I definitely have a passion to take baby steps into the design world.  I would love to go back to school for interior design and be able to decorate/design homes for a living but since the money is a little low right now, I have expressed my creative outlet in the form of this blog.   But I have decided today to take one more baby step (even writing that down on the blog scares the daylights outta me!).   My first baby step will be to create mood boards for anyone who is interested, free of charge.   If you live locally I can also come to your home and go over a plan of action for a room that you want to makeover.  I don't claim to have an interior design or decorating degree, but I can create something (on a very low budget) in a way that will meet your needs both functionally and aesthetically.

I will keep this short and sweet, if you are interested in any of the above services please message me.  As you look around my blog you can get an idea of projects I have done before and the aesthetic of my home.  But I do want to tell you that my home is a work in progress and since I don't have unlimited resources it is not a finished project.   Your design aesthetic may be a little different than mine and I welcome that challenge.  But also I will say that if you don't like my style it may not be the best for you to request a mood board; I can branch out into many different design aesthetics such as: mid century, industrial, hollywood regency, glam, modern, country cottage, beachy, etc.  But if your style is not one listed please message me, I will be upfront about what styles I am able to take on.  My goal is to create an end result that both you and I can be proud of.  Please message me and let me know if I can help out!

Here is a link to all of my boards on pinterest .  The items that I pin give you an idea of things I am inspired by and will therefore be indicative of spaces that I might create.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!
